Why do I get the one nipple hair every couple of months?

Ever notice a couple wiry, long hairs surrounding your nipples? Well you’re not alone. To be clear, this is not a medical issue so don’t freak out. It’s kinda like that one chin hair that grazes your chin every now and again. First, the hair is not coming straight out of your nipple (if it is idk what to tell you). It’s surrounding those tiny glands aka ya Montgomery glands. So naturally, hair can come out of any gland on your body.

Typically,  there’s no rhyme or reason as to why you might see a couple of hairs. But if you’re noticing more than usual, here are a couple of possibilities as to why.

Might you have PCOS?

For those who might not be familiar, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal condition that causes your ovaries to enlarge and get covered with cysts. This is not a life threatening condition but having cysts on your ovaries can be painful especially while you have your period (as if periods weren’t bad enough). Along with more pain, boom, ya get more hair. Everywhere. So if you’re experiencing some of these symptoms and have more nipple hair than usual, consider having your gyno ch ch check it out.

Are you preg?

During pregnancy, your body is undergoing hella hormonal changes. The excess of estrogen that pumps through your body during this time can actually make your hair growth phase longer, hence, more nipple hair. Remember those Montgomery glands I mentioned before? Well those babies are supposed to secret fluids to lube the nipples up for breastfeeding so you can definitely expect more hair during this time.

But remember if it really bothers you, it’s no challenge for a pair of tweezer
