WTF is Seed Cycling?
and is it another marketing scheme?
We’re all about alternative medicine and natural remedies here at Planet Pink so let’s dive into this new one. Seed cycling is all about supplementing seeds during your cycle to help with hormone regulation. When researching this new fad, we found little to no concrete evidence that this really works to regulate hormones but it was worth a try.
We’re working with four kinds of seeds here: pumpkin, flax, sunflower & sesame. Why? Not sure why these specific four were chosen but we do know they have plethora of benefits regardless. Honestly, this is kind of an annoying ritual to perform but it works in two phases:
DISCLAIMER: We are not nutritionists or doctors so proceed with caution! Also, if you don’t have a period tracker this is going to be very difficult.
1. Take one tablespoon of raw, ground flax & pumpkin seeds (we added it to a protein shake) on day one of your period until the day before you ovulate. (Hence why you need to be tracking your period on this experiment)
2. Have one tablespoon of raw, ground sesame and sunflower seeds per day from day one of ovulation to day one of your period.
So basically you’re adding seeds to your diet every single day. If you’re having irregular periods try it out— the seeds have some pretty good health benefits whether it really works or not.
Pumpkin:
- high in antioxidants and protect from free radical damage
- can lower inflammation
- contains high amounts of lignin which helps promote estrogen
Flax:
- can reduce anovulatory cycles (cycles where ovulation does not occur due to hormone imbalances)
- can slightly lengthen the luteal phase
Sunflower:
- high in selenium which can promote fertility, boost progesterone & reduce estrogen
- reduces period cramps
Sesame:
- improves blood circulation
- high in lignin
- can lower oxidative stress making periods less painful and more regulated
After two months of seed cycling, not sure if this is a scam but we’re going to keep at it for these dope health benefits. Try it out and let us know in the comments!
