Do you neeeed to shave?

NOPE. So let’s try to normalize body hair then!

NOPE. So let’s try to normalize body hair then!

Alright hear me out - let’s really take a second and think about why we shave.

For me, it started out as something I did just because everyone else did it (shocker). When you’re a middle school aged girl, topics like sex, getting your period and shaving are topics girls can’t stop talking about. “So and so used a tampon for the first time.” “Did you hear she started shaving her vagina? I think she’s having sex”. So as you can imagine, after having or even overhearing some of these conversations you’d think to yourself, “do I have to use tampons?” “do I have to shave before having sex?” “what direction do I shave my vagina?”. Middle school health class wasn’t fucking cutting it and I was awkward as hell and wouldn’t dare ask my mom for advice on this one. Alas, I made decisions about my vagina based on information/advice I got from random sources and believed was it the “normal” thing to do. That meant I shaved every few weeks for yearsssss. Mind you no one saw my vagina but me for yearsssss.

As I got older I noticed I was prone to ingrown hairs, razor bumps, darks spots you naaaaaame it. That’s when I turned to terrible, expensive ass products like Nair, shaving creams and gels. These products are full of harsh chemicals that can seriously damage your skin and vagina if you aren’t careful. They clog your pores and make your skin more susceptible to sunburn; so much for that beach day. Omg and waxing, don’t get me started on waxing - shits expensive, hurts like hell and is super intimidating if you don’t have a regular “waxer” who knows your parts.

Finally, I got tired as hell trying to keep up with my vagina hair especially because I was starting to see dark spots and scaring on my vagina from shaving. That’s when I tried ingrown hair treatments like using warm water and tea tree oil, and ingrown hair solutions from Fur and Flamingo. At first I was hesitant to try out these newer brands and stuck to my at home treatments since no one I knew used their products. Luckily, Fur offers you a quiz on their website to get you started; you answer a few questions about your preferences and it suggests a few products to start you off. I decided to start small and try their ingrown concentrate and I was pleasantly surprised…shocked actually! It’s not heavy, doesn’t stain and soften/smoothes my skin and now I’m so much less irritated down there. And honestly, $28 is not bad at all when it gets rid of the pain and suffering involved with the itching & irritation you get post-shave. I have yet to try out Flamingo’s product and I’m dying to try products from Billie but if it’s anything like Fur’s concentrate it’s definitely worth checking out, along with these other great vagina safe products:

Fur Ingrown Hair Concentrate

Tend Skin Solution

Flamingo Ingrown Spot Treatment
