Join the fight to end period poverty & stigma
As much as I complain about having my period, I always snap out of it when I think about how many women across the world, even in the US who can’t afford period hygiene products. A study found that two thirds of women in St. Louis, Missouri could not afford pads or tampons and often rely on non profit organizations to carry them through each month. Can you imagine using toilet paper, tissues or even rags to catch your blood? This has become the norm for so many women across the states & the world.
In low income communities, buying food is a higher priority than period products for many women. Aside from not being able to afford these basic needs, so many women are uneducated when it comes to period health and hygiene. In several countries around the world, menstruation is still a taboo topic and is often ignored-- as if it doesn’t exist. Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global advocacy platform that destigmatizes periods, promotes healthy period hygiene, and raises awareness around menstruation. Along with MH, several different non-profits have dedicated themselves to end period stigmas and ensure that all women can afford menstrual hygiene products. Join the movement to learn how you can get involved and contribute to different non-profits like MH or PeriodMovement, and Desaifoundation!
